SOCS TV: Safeguarding and Streaming Policy for Schools

Before adopting a streaming solution, schools should ask:

- Who controls the cameras and content?

- Is the platform compliant with KCSIE 2024 and GDPR?

- Is there a transparent and robust consent process?

- Are governance and privacy tools in place?

- Is your school’s reputation protected?

- Do you have the necessary licences to stream content for productions and music?

1. School control

- You determine what is filmed 

- You only stream approved events 

- You own and manage your content, including access rights/retention periods


2. Consent and communication

Consent workflows are built into the platform for both internal and external participants. Parents, guardians, and pupils must be clearly informed about:

- What events are being streamed

- The purpose of the streaming

- Their rights to opt out


3. Data protection and privacy

All streaming activities are GDPR-compliant. Student data and media are never used for third-party commercial gain. The platform provides:

-Clear retention policies

-Data protection by design and by default


4. Platform governance

SOCS TV includes built-in tools to support school compliance:

- Role-based permissions and access control

- Checklist for copyright compliance on a case-by-case basis

- Consent management systems will use API feed from school MIS and an additional field for opposing teams is under development

- Content approval workflows

- Retention period settings for all media

- Transparent audit trails for all actions

- Immediate removal tools if content must be withdrawn


5. Licences

Before streaming a school performance, it’s important to make sure you have the right permissions for anything that is copyrighted—like scripts, songs, or videos. This includes getting the necessary licences to perform and stream the content. SOCS TV follows copyright rules and has privacy settings to keep students safe. Taking care of these things ahead of time helps everything run smoothly and keeps your performance legal and respectful of creators' rights. 

We are currently seeking expert advice to provide a checklist for negotiating licences and this will be added to this policy document shortly.

In 2023, the Norwegian Data Protection Authority issued a ban on streaming youth sports due to failures to comply with safeguarding standards. The use of AI-driven cameras, lack of transparency, and rights-driven commercial model led to:
