At first glance, a sports bra might seem like a small detail in a young athlete’s kit. But for too many girls, it’s the reason they step back from sport altogether — a missing piece of support that quietly chips away at their confidence and comfort. That’s where PEBE comes in.

At SOCS, we believe in creating environments where girls can stay active, feel confident, and enjoy all the benefits of sport — on and off the pitch. That’s why we’re proud to spotlight organisations like PEBE, who are addressing the barriers that often go unspoken. Their work shows how practical support, education, and thoughtful design can have a real impact on participation, especially during the pivotal teenage years.

Founded by Lucy Horsell and Charlotte Gill, PEBE is a female-led, science-backed initiative that’s helping to change the game for girls in sport. And for us, that’s something worth celebrating.

Changing the conversation around confidence and kit

What sets PEBE apart is that they’re not just providing a product — they’re leading with education. Through school-based workshops and fittings, they open up conversations about breast health, body awareness, and the importance of supportive kit in sport. These sessions help normalise topics that are too often treated as taboo.

PEBE are partnered with 75 schools across the UK and Europe, working with more than 22,500 girls. Their findings are striking: they discovered that more than 70% of girls had never been measured for a bra, and only a tiny fraction were wearing the correct size. It’s a common pattern they see in schools across the country — and it underlines just how essential this kind of intervention is.

Looking ahead

PEBE’s work has already been recognised by schools, athletes, and awarding bodies alike — but more importantly, it’s being recognised by the girls they support. Whether it’s a dancer at The Royal Ballet School or a footballer at a state secondary, the message is clear: when girls feel supported, they stay in sport.

And when more girls stay in sport, everyone benefits — teams thrive, school communities grow stronger, and young people build the confidence and resilience that lasts far beyond the final whistle.

We’re proud to spotlight PEBE and others like them who are making a difference in the world of school sport. Because when we work together to remove barriers, we create space for every young person to find — and enjoy — their own personal best.
