SOCS launches the first AI governance and readiness standard built for schools

SOCS today announces SOCS Standards: AI Readiness, Powered by Pedagogue — the first AI governance and readiness standard designed specifically for the independent school sector.

AI is already part of school life. Staff are exploring it, pupils are using it daily, and the regulatory landscape is moving — from updated KCSIE guidance to emerging DfE AI standards and evolving ISI inspection expectations. Most school leaders already recognise that AI needs governing. What's been missing is a practical framework that works within the constraints of school life — limited INSET time, stretched budgets, and staff at very different starting points.

Schools across the network have been asking us for practical support on AI — not more policy templates, but something that actually moves staff forward and gives leadership teams confidence that they can evidence their approach. That's what this programme delivers, and it's why we chose to build it with Pedagogue
James Kershaw-Naylor Director of Product

SOCS Standards: AI Readiness gives schools a structured route from policy to practice, building staff confidence and capability across every department while generating the governance assurance that heads, governors, parents, and inspectors increasingly expect.

A whole-school programme, not a single training day

The programme takes a whole-school approach. Rather than a one-off session that's forgotten or out of date by half-term, it builds AI capability through guided learning pathways, a safe practice environment, and an adaptive AI tutor that meets each member of staff where they are — whether they've never opened an AI tool or are already experimenting in their department.

Every member of staff who completes the programme earns a stamp in their AI Passport — a portable, verifiable credential that recognises their professional development. For the school, the programme produces a comprehensive Evidence Pack: a structured record of staff progress across AI safety, classroom application, and student readiness — mapped against KCSIE, DfE guidance, ISI expectations, and GDPR accountability requirements. Schools completing the full programme receive a Pedagogue AI-Ready credential for the institution.

Designed around the realities school leaders actually face

The programme was co-developed with practising school leaders and teachers, and built around the pressures they carry: competing priorities, limited time for professional development, and no clear consensus on what good AI governance looks like. Content updates as national guidance evolves, so the governance framework a school builds today doesn't become outdated when the policy landscape shifts next term.

School leaders told us consistently that AI governance mattered to them — they just didn't have a way to get there that worked with the time and resources available. SOCS Standards: AI Readiness gives them that path, and the reassurance that AI is being managed
